A year in the life...

As so many of you know, it's been a rough year for our family.

This time last year, Papa started having back pain. On February 11th, we found it the pain was coming from pancreatic cancer. We thought we had weeks left with him.

So, I began taking pictures. I seem to be able to handle life better looking thru a lense than head on sometimes.

I also came up with a plan back in February. I decided to take enough pictures to be able to give my mom a new one EVERY DAY FOR A YEAR after Papa passed.

We were so blessed to have him 9 months and 1 week after that dreadful day of 2-11-11. So, I was able to achieve my goal...and I've beeng giving Mom a new picture every day since we lost him on 11-18-11.

It's been a gift for myself, too. I love photos and always have...guess that's why I do this job I do. The details of photos stir me. I feel them, not just see them. And, I am so grateful to have the photos from this year...especially like this one above of Mom and Papa. You can see the love. You can feel their love. You can see Mom's weariness and pain. It says so much about this year.

So.....back to my plan. I also decided in Feb to come up with a product to go with the photos I would be giving Mom. So, now you all know where & why our CALENDAR CARDS came to be!

In each set you get 1 card for each month that includes a month title, a poem about the month on a tag, a round calendar (blank so it works for any year), and a journaling card. Each set also has 6 title cards, to do different themed albums...Baby's 1st year, 1st year of marriage, or any special year.

There is one title I included: "365 A Day at a Time". It's for Mom's book that will have the pictures I'm giving her this year.

Well, we started selling the Calendar Cards sets in November, and we love all the feedback we are receiving. They are so versatile...use them on Connectors to make wall hanging calendars...use the tags to make mini albums...or use them to make a full 12x12 album.

No Regrets

Yesterday, I attended my friend Kyle's funeral. He turned 43 last Sunday. He died Monday morning.

It's Sunday afternoon where I live...4:45 pm to be exact. This time last week, he was enjoying his birthday. Now, he's gone. His funeral is over. And, we are supposed to go back to our normal life tomorrow.

How?

How can anything be normal? How can I comprehend this when I'm still in shock that Papa is actually gone? Papa died just 17 days before Kyle. And, we had 9 months and 1 week to prepare for Papa's passing. That's how long we knew he had pancreatic cancer. Papa was 76. We knew he was sick. And, I still can't wrap my head around him being gone FOREVER. And, Kyle...man oh man...Kyle was just 43, barely. He had a massive heart attack and was gone. He never even knew he was sick. Nor did we.

But somehow, some way, we are supposed to comprehend all of this. How do I explain these things to Keller when I don't know what to say? Yes, I believe it's God's plan. He is in control. But, I don't understand God's plan. I hurt. That's what I know right now.

Another thing I know is that I want to be more like Kyle and Papa. They both had no regrets. Papa told me that several times in the last year. He said to me on more than one occasion, "I've had a great life, I know where I'm going, and I'm ready." How great is that? To have the time to reflect on your own life...to know your heart is right with God...and to be ready to leave this earth.

I believe Kyle felt the same, although I never heard him say it. The last time I saw Kyle was at our house after Papa's funeral. He hugged me several times that day, as he always did. He smiled & listened, as he always did. He always brought love & laughter & peace into a room. He did that day, too. Oh, how I wish I knew that I would never see him again. I would have told him that I want to be more like him. I want to love people every chance I get, just like he did. I always want to make people feel better when they hurt, just like he did. I want to smile, even thru the pain, just like he did.

If we all lived like that, it would be a life of no regrets. We would leave love every place we went. What's to regret about that?

One HUGE regret I have is that I didn't go to Kyle's house on Thanksgiving Day. It was just 3 days after Papa's funeral. Our family elected to go to a movie and grill steaks instead of participating in a traditional Thanksgiving. It would be too painful, we thought. But, now...I regret not going by there, at least for a few minutes. If I had, I would have had my camera. I would have taken lots of family photos. We would all have more recent photos of Kyle and his amazing smile.

I will try to remember the lessons of this year and do all I can to live a life of no regrets. I will continue to focus on the daily moments of life that are so precious, as I tried to do with Papa all year. I will try to live my life fully with no regrets, like both Papa and Kyle showed me how to do.

And, I will miss Papa and Kyle.

Time to catch up...

There are so many things that we had planned for our blog this year...so many things that had to get put on the back burner. As many of you know, I've had my hands full with more pressing issues -- Papa's ongoing fight against pancreatic cancer, mainly.

But, today, I am determined to post something on our blog! A story that we weren't sure would even be a story at all. But, it happened...Papa made it to Keller's 16th birthday!!!

The day Papa was diagnosed, he asked the doctor, "what would it take to get me 6 months?" That was February 11th of this year. When I asked Papa that day, "what's 6 months?", he said that "6 months is your boy's 16th birthday...and I taught that boy to drive. 6 months is another football season." To say I cried is an understatement.

Fast forward (although there has been nothing FAST about the last 6 months...each month has seemed like a year) and we made it, HE made it. Keller turned 16 on 8-8...and Papa was alive & well to celebrate. In fact, he bought Keller a truck!!!

Par for the course, surprising Keller with his truck was nothing short of an adventure! His birthday fell on Monday...a day after I drove home from a convention...and also the first day of school...so we made plans for a family cookout the Saturday AFTER his birthday. But, once Papa bought the truck, he just couldn't wait to give it to him. So, we decided to surprise him at dinner on Sunday night upon my return (after driving 8 hours alone, mind you)...and of course, when Keller was asked where he'd like to eat, he chose a restaurant 30 miles away! Thus, my mom called & said I had to find a way to get his hidden truck down there to the restaurant's parking lot. Ooookkaaaayyyyy, I can do that....hmmm...call a dear friend (Ken) who lives there...tell him I'll drive down to get him...drive him back to Thomasville...have him drive truck to restaurant in Tallahassee...got it figured out. First, I had to call Keller & tell him I had hit traffic problems & would be an hour later than I originally thought. :)

That gave me time to get the truck under control. I rush home to change clothes & meet up with Mom & Papa & Keller to go eat....we have a fun meal with us & Ken...and Keller never questions why Ken is there with us...so after dinner, Papa had hidden the key in a precious gift he had wrapped for Keller -- one of his Bibles that Keller had commented that he would love to have one day! So, that was enough for us all to cry...but then the look of excitement on Keller's face when he found the key!!! We then blindfolded him & led him outside...when he was close to the truck, my mom removed the blindfold & told him to go get his truck!! He ran to it, jumped in, put the key in, turned the ignition...

tick, tick, tick.....

nothing.....

tick, tick, tick.....

then more nothing.

"Is this a joke?" asks Keller!! NO, we say, half laughing and half crying...trying to figure out WHY it won't start!!!

Then we realize that we don't need jumper cables because it's a 5 speed & we can push it to get it to start...(see picture)...so after many, many laughs, Keller enjoys driving his truck around the parking lot! But, making it home was no small feat...every time it would stall, it was the same thing...push it again...so 3 hours later, we make it home...with a police escort by that point, no less!

Papa assured Keller his truck would be fixed by the time he came home Monday from football practice after school...and we all laughed & cried, telling Keller he certainly NEVER would forget his 16th birthday!

The next day, Papa held true to his promise. He got the alternator replaced, and the truck was good to go. I picked Keller up in & he drove it to their house for another birthday dinner. After dinner, he was driving home...

and....we had another surprise.....

we were within a 1/2 mile of mom & papa's driveway...and another truck crossed the center line & hit us!! Keller was driving & handled it so well, maintaining control to get off the road...but was furious that his truck was messed up! I was just shaken & grateful that my son was alive!!

So....4 days after that...the truck once again was fixed & ready for Keller...just in time for his birthday cookout with the whole family & lots of football players!! Like I said, always an adventure with us. But, that's what makes life great, huh? I wouldn't trade our adventure for the world.

And, Papa, we are so incredibly in awe of you & your strength...and ever grateful to God that you're still with us. Thank you for loving us!

Update on Lori

Last year, my brother (aka SuperDave mentioned at end of article linked below) rallied around his friend Lori to raise over $30,000 to help her recovery from a massive stroke. A huge portion of the money raised went to purchase the custom wheelchair that she uses now to get around. It's so great to know that she isn't confined to a bed all day now!

Many of you helped in the money-raising efforts, too, and we wanted to thank you once more for your generosity. And, we wanted to give you an update on Lori and her recovery. Many of you ask me on the road how she's doing, so I was so happy to see another article yesterday about her on http://www.connectsavannah.com/. (link to article is below) And, I personally went to see her while visiting my brother in Savannah last November. I took pictures of them & sent a framed one to Lori for Christmas. Pictures just make life happier, don't they?!?

Thank you for being our customer. Thank you for caring beyond measure for others who are struggling. Thank you for letting me continue in this job that means the world to me.

Well, HELLO.

It’s been a while. It’s been too long.

Yes, we’re still here. Yes, we’re still in business. Thank you for the emails & messages checking on us.

Where have we been?

It all started with my crazy schedule. Then, email problems. Then, missing packages. Add employee issues. Mix in discontinued papers & ordering nightmares from paper companies and you have my life for many months of last year. I knew it was time for a change.

Mid summer last year, we began making serious changes. We started making our own papers, in an effort to be less dependent on other companies, who were having issues of their own. We made every technical change possible…well, as much as we could possibly afford…if I ever win the lottery, we will have an email system like Google! We also changed…and changed… and changed again they way we ship. And, we had employee changes.

Lastly, I made the difficult decision in the fall to scale back, wwwaaaaaaayyyyy back, on my show schedule. I cut from over 30 shows a year (37 was my high) to just 16 conventions for 2011, teaching exclusively for CK. My reasons were to continue to work on the making all the changes listed above, as well as be around more to keep an eye on a teenage kid named Keller!

I knew this business would kill me if it continued on as it was. So, I made the decision and stuck to it, not knowing that God had an even bigger reason for me to be home more.

As many of you know, I have quite a small family. There’s me. Keller. My brother, David. My mom, Gail. And Papa, my stepdad.

In the fall, Papa began ‘just not feeling himself’, if you know what I mean. He wasn’t hunting, which was a huge red flag. He would tire out easily when outside. He was moving much slower. In December, he started having some back pain. He tried chiropractors. He tried pain pills. He tried physical therapy. He and mom got a new mattress set. No relief. He had an MRI. He had x-rays. By February, he went for an epidural to block the pain in his back, and God made sure someone noticed that his back pain was just the symptom ( as mom and I suspected by that point) ….Papa collapsed at the doctor’s office before they could do the epidural. They admitted him to the hospital & started tests. By morning, they had ordered a CT scan. By afternoon, we had our answer.

Pancreatic Cancer. Stage 4. Metasticized to the liver and lungs.

Our world stopped.

Keller needs his Papa. He’s the closest thing to a dad he’s ever had, definitely a grandpa to him.

Mom needs Papa. He’s her one true love.

I need Papa. He loves me unconditionally. Very rare in my life.

His kids need him. His grandkids and great-grandkids need him.

The world needs him. He is the sweetest spirited man who just exudes love and happiness.

We were sent home to wait for him to die.

I now knew why I needed to be home.

As we rallied around Papa, God sent us friends in the medical field, who put us in touch with doctors who said there were a few things to try. But, first we needed to know where else the cancer was. They suspected the brain and stomach. After a couple more invasive procedures, we were shocked, yet thrilled to learn that there was NO CANCER in the brain and NO CANCER had broken thru his stomach wall. Thank you, God! This meant he could eat and might be with us a little longer than they we initially were led to believe.

Then, they said there was one chemo to try, that would not only manage his pain & increase his fluid levels, but would give a slim chance to slow the growth of the cancer. Well, to quote Papa’s oncologist, ‘we won the lottery’! He was one of the lucky few that the chemo seemed to be shrinking some of the numerous tumors!! His blood work went from off-the-charts-terrible to just-plain-terrible. We might make it to another football season for him to see Keller play!

That’s where we are now. He is getting weaker. Every day has a new challenge. Not one day has been easy. We still know every day is precious. We may have him a week. A month. A year? Wow, that would be beyond amazing. For today, we are just thankful to still have him and it’s June already. We never thought we’d be here now.

In the last year, I have learned so many lessons. I am more present each moment when I’m with family and friends. I had begun learning that lesson last March when we unexpectedly lost my dear friend, Debbie Williams. When life is taken in a moment, you learn to value the time you have. And, Debbie’s death made me realize what a true gift we have with Papa, the gift of more time together.

And, I learned to work smarter during my work hours, dedicated more than ever to get systems in place to get our company to the level it needs to be. I learned to call on other business owners from all industries to learn new ways to do things.

I have learned to delegate. I have hired and fired and hired some more…determined to get the best team I can for you, our customers. I now know that I no longer can say, ‘I’ll just do it myself’…I can NOT do everything myself. I’ve learned to accept volunteer help from family and friends.

I’ve learned that we have the best customers in the world! As each of the shows draws near & I’m wondering if I will make it there, I ask Papa & he tells me to go. It’s so hard to leave now, but once I get in the classroom, I’m surrounded by the BEST people in the world. You all lift me up more than you know. You remind me how lucky I am to have this job. Thank you!

I have learned to trust my creativity…which has led to more fun ideas than ever before!!! And, now that we are back on track in so many areas of our business, we are now ready to bring them to you.

Where have we been? Where has Fabulous Friday been? What the heck has been going on????

Email updates...

You've heard the saying "one step forward and two steps back"....but this week has felt like one step forward and TEN steps back!! But, as I type this, I sincerely hope that all email issues are behind us. Oh, please let that be the case.

Whew, it's been a long few months fighting email issues! But, as of today, I think - actually I pray - that they are finally fixed!!

We've been missing emails. We've been sending emails that don't go anywhere. We've had delays in emails, sometimes hours or even days. We've made server changes & upgrades, all of which made it better...but then it would start again. Finally yesterday, the technical reason I was given for our problems was SPAM! And, tons of it. More than filters can handle. Hijacking email accounts thru spam has happened to Facebook, AOL, and lots of other big companies. Guess I should feel better that it's not just us...but I don't.

So, after over 8 years of having kellerscreations@acidfree as our main email address, we've been forced to shut down that email address.

Our new main email address is info@acidfree.com. Please update your address book.

You can also email me personally with kim@acidfree.com.

If you've emailed us in the last several months and NOT heard back from us, I'm so sorry. Please know we've been trying everything we can to fix things. Also, please email us again now if we need to follow up on anything with you.

Our contact info is now updated on the CONTACT US page on our site, too.

Please know we are still here & now able to answer each & every email in a timely manner, as we had done for years until recently.

Personally, I hate computers and other technical gadgets...but I know that we need them...have all become so dependent on them...and they do make life easier & businesses run smoother...but only WHEN THEY WORK. They can cripple you when they don't. I've lost more sleep than I can ever make up. I've had a few more glasses of wine in the last few months, in efforts to unwind after so many long hours. I want my life & my business back, both of which I used to be able to enjoy day and night! I want to get back to making customers happy, not frustrated. I want to get back to designing all the new products that are swirling in my head. Today should be the first day back in that direction.

Because of this technical crisis, we missed last Friday's usual post here on our blog. We will make that up to you this Friday, so check back.

Now, for this week's giveaway...was working on another post, but decided to shoot from the heart, so to speak. It's been a rough two weeks. I can't go into any details at all, but my heart aches for my son. Keller is being faced with something that most adults would not know how to deal with. If you're a mom, you know how hard it is to watch your child learn tough lessons in life. It's so hard to make them see now that these trials, no matter how painful & seemingly insurmountable, will strengthen their spirit...fortify their character...prepare them for even more trials down the road. It's hard to make them see that choosing to do the right thing when no one is watching is the real test. It's also hard to NOT be able to shout from the rooftops how proud you are of your child, when you're not supposed to know all they are facing & how they are choosing to handle it.

So, here, let me shout it: KELLER, I AM SO PROUD OF YOU. YOU WILL MAKE IT THRU THIS. YOU WILL NOT ONLY SURVIVE, BUT BE A BETTER MAN FOR IT. STAY STRONG. STAY FOCUSED. I LOVE YOU.

Also, going on in Thomasville today is the Memorial Service for our fallen hero, Blake McLendon, who was killed in Afghanistan last week while serving in the US Navy. Our city has declared today "A day of mourning in Thomasville". To Blake's family, please know how grateful we are for your son's life, his service to our nation, and his sacrifice. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Fabulous & Funny Friday...

It's time for another fun giveaway! And, while I was working diligently on our blog post for today....after a very rough week emotionally for me....I took a break to see if I had missed any earth-shattering news on FaceBook. Well, the world seems to still be turning, but I did come across a list that made me laugh out loud (which was more than needed)...so I decided to post it here for our blog followers today. Maybe I'm not the only one who needs a chuckle right now.

So read this...then read below to see what we're giving away this week & how easy it is to try to win.

Truths for Mature Humans:

1. I think part of a best friend's job should be to immediately clear your computer history if you die.

2. Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.

3. I totally take back all those times I didn't want to nap when I was younger.

4. There is great need for a sarcasm font.

5. How the hell are you supposed to fold a fitted sheet?

6. Was learning cursive really necessary?

7. Map Quest really needs to start their directions on # 5. I'm pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

8. Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.

9. I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.

10. Bad decisions make good stories.

11. You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you know that you just aren’t going to do anything productive for the rest of the day.

12. Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after Blue Ray? I don't want to have to restart my collection...again.

13. I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten-page technical report that I swear I did not make any changes to.

14. I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.

15. I think the freezer deserves a light as well.

16. I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Lite than Kay.

17. I wish Google Maps had an “Avoid Ghetto" routing option.

18. I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.

19. How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear or understand a word they said?

20. I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars team up to prevent a jerk from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers and sisters!

21. Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.

22. Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.

23. Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, finding their cell phone, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but I'd bet everyone can find and push the snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time, every time!

24. The first testicular guard, the "Cup," was used in Hockey in 1874 and the first helmet was used in 1974. That means it only took 100 years for men to realize that their brain is also important. (Ladies.....Quit Laughing.)

After over 400 pictures last week and this...I got a little smarter. I've gotten some shots that I love & will treasure...but none of Keller's gameface, none facing me, none up close...and believe me, I've put my telefoto lense to the test. So, I got the attention of one of the film guys at the JV game yesterday...gave him my camera & asked him to pose as a Yearbook photographer...pointed out Keller & off he went. Here's my favorite shot:

I thought Keller would recognize the camera, but I was safe. It's a good thing I had already talked to the yearbook staff last week & said I'd be sharing pix from the games...maybe one of those from yesterday will make the book...then Keller will never know!

Here's one I captured...love, love, LOVE that Keller so enjoys every moment he's with the team. (guess that might not be true during sprints) Just look at his face...says it all...

And, I'm so impressed with the whole coaching staff. They are so much more than coaches to these boys. Especially Keller. He's gained a group of dads to call his own. And, I love that they pray before and after each game.

Guess that's enough football jabber for this week...oh, wait...GO DAWGS!!!! Just had to get that in...UGA kicks off at 12:21 EST tomorrow...after a long winter, spring & summer. I'm so ready for the boys of fall!

Fabulous Friday Continued....

It was such an amazing day...for me and Keller...

The pep rally was loud & fun & crazy...

Keller is the 4th down from the top on the left side...

One of our cousins was the best cheerleader....

The coaches & the head of the journalism department surprised the team with a video...

Have you seen the Boys of Fall video by Kenny Chesney?? Google it & watch it, if not...great for all athletes. Anyway, the surprise was that they changed all the football footage in it to TCCHS footage...left in Kenny & the song & the coaches talking in it. AMAZING. I cried...but that's not a surprise.

Keller warmed up better than anyone on the team, if you ask me. All heart....

and he's the one in the middle who looks like he's praying...

It's kickoff time...

Looks like he played...muddy is good, right?

He cheered & urged the crowd to stand & holler the whole game...

I asked him last night if his arms were tired from waving them up & down at the crowd all night...

I've never seen him so happy....made me cry again...

We received the opening kickoff...scored a touchdown on the 2nd play from scrimmage. That was the only time we led....UNTIL we finally took the lead with 6 minutes to go. We stopped them twice after that. And then....the buzzer sounded...

Fabulous Friday is an understatement...

Today is fabulous because we're going to give away another great prize.

But, today is more than fabulous in our world. It's a frenzy of excitement and nerves. It's a first. It's going to be fun from beginning to end (hopefully). It's been on Keller's mind since last April...when he decided to try out for the highschool football team. TODAY IS KELLER'S FIRST FOOTBALL GAME.

It's a varsity game, so not sure if he'll see action on the field. He's just a Freshman. And at 6' 1.75", he still looks small next to the upperclassmen. And, he's still my baby, of course. So, I'm perfectly happy just seeing him in his uniform....seeing him run on the field...seeing him be a part of something so much bigger than himself.

Our day started at 6am...dressing in his varsity blazer and tie presented by the coaches yesterday. Then, a few last minutes to study for a World Geography test. And, Keller actually let me take a couple pictures...not many, but I'll take it.

Then, off to school....so fun for me to watch his 'swagger' as he left the car & walked to his building....so fun to see girls' heads turn toward the football player....so fun to see him 'high five' another lineman.

I hope Keller soaks it all in. And enjoys the fruits of his labor for the last 5 months...4 hours a day in 100+ degree heat every day. I hope he walks with pride all day knowing that he is one of only 7 Freshman to make Varsity. Not bad for a kid who had only previously played 4 football games at the Y in 5th grade. I want him to never forget the sound of the band and cheers at his first pep rally today. (and he even agreed to let me come & take pix at it...with permission from the coaches of course...so stay tuned for those this weekend) I want him to enjoy the short ride with his team across town...as Thomas County Central (county school, Keller's school) kicks off the season with the biggest rival in our town...by going to play the Thomasville Bulldogs (city school). I hope he remembers every word his coach has to say before running on the field. I hope he listens to the crowd tonight. And hears the drums & the cheerleaders & all the noise of this town that fills that stadium tonight.

It's big. It's Keller's day. Truly, a FABULOUS FRIDAY!

With Father's Day this weekend, what does it mean to you?

For me, it's always been my least favorite 'holiday' of sorts. I didn't know my father growing up...but finally met him when I was 37. I was lucky enough to develop a relationship with him, full of forgiveness & honesty. It was such a blessing & the bravest thing I've ever done...finding him, making that first phone call, and driving across country in a '93 Camry to make it all possible! Keller was with me, every step of the way. And, when my dad suddenly passed away 2 years ago, it made those few days we spent together & the following phone calls & emails even more treasured. So, to my dad, Happy Father's Day.

Also, for the 14 years I've had Keller, his father came & went the first couple years...so he really has no memory of him. His life consists of just us two. So, for both of us, father's day has always been a little strange. One day, I hope he wants to make the same journey I did...to find his father & see the truth, no matter what that may be.

Then, last night, I got a sweet message from a dear customer, now friend...it said "Happy Mather's Day"....explaining it was for all us moms who fill both rolls, mother and father. I loved the message & love the meaning. Thank you, Liz, for that. Much needed and much appreciated.

So, enough from my end...what does Father's Day mean to you? now? growing up? difficult like it has been for us? or amazingly special? Good or bad, we want to hear! Here in the South, Summer is in full swing! 95 degree + days...great weather for lots of outdoor activities! And you have to take lots of photos of the summer fun.

Mother's Day

I hope each of you had a wonderful Mother's Day this past Sunday. For me, Mother's Day was last night! On Sunday, my mom was sick with a stomach bug, and I was in bed with a migraine. Sometimes that's just life. But, between baseball games & spring football practice, Keller & I managed to get together for dinner at Mom's last night.

Here's what Keller & I made for mom:

We decorated one of our Accordion Tags, but then added more XL scalloped tags to the last panel. The brad at the top held the extra tags in place, and they could slide sideways for Mom to see the coupons we made for her....one for a pedicure at her favorite spa, one for a lunch out, and one of a movie together. Needless to say, she loved it!

We hope you love this simple gift idea, too.

First, let me apologize for just getting this posted. The last week has been a blur with all the work, the website changes, etc. With that being said...

But, it's Friday again. That means another Fabulous Friday Giveaway! And, this Friday leads into Mother's Day weekend. I'll start...

My mom is solely responsible for my drive & determination, my belief that I can do anything that I work hard enough for, and commitment to always try my best. If I had a dollar for every time my mom told me, "if something is worth doing, it's worth doing right" and "always give your best, nothing less", then I wouldn't need to work for a living!! She was so right. She believed in me. She encouraged me to do my best, to be the best. She was also self-employed for over 20 years...mainly so she could have a schedule to make all our school activities, basketball games (home AND away), church functions, and family dinner time each night. Thanks, Mom, for showing me the way to work and be a great mom, all at the same time.

As for my role as mother, I'm so proud to have Keller as my son. Almost from the very beginning, it's been just the two of us. We have shared life's struggles & joys together. We have laughed and cried together. We are still growing together. I am still amazed at how quickly all this is passing by. He should be a toddler, still throwing his arms wildly in the air when I enter the room. How is it that he is now 6 feet tall, all sweaty & stinky from football practice when I see him after school each day?! Oh, how the time flies by...

Here are some more project ideas...

First, a simple page:

I used:

cardstock Rings in Smooth Orange--my daughter plays for the Orioles, so the Ring was perfect for the title!

Lower Playtime clear stamps

Sports Slide Spots

a 3-in smooth, white cardstock circle-just add the details to turn it into a softball

Another simple page using the Classic Tags from the Frog Prince Collection (blue) by Piggy Tales.

I also used:

Spring Breeze cardstock Rings

"Friends" Ring Quotes

stamp from XL "Together & more" set

staple ribbon to each tag

This "pocket tag" was so fun to make!

Start with an ACCORDION TAG from the Yellow Flowers & Dots collection by Paper Loft. Yes, an Accordion Tag!

Cut it in half so that you have 2 sets of 2 connected tags.

Fold tag over and cut half off of top tag to make "pocket". Adhere on edges.

Cut an extra strip of patterned paper. Flatten a piece of raffia. Then fold raffia in a pleat and adhere behind print strip. Adhere to card. Adhere a button and add raffia to hole in tag.

Add a gift card and personal note-a quick, simple gift for a teacher, mom, or anyone else!

I stamped the "together" stamp from our "Family & more" clear stamp set inside one of the Rings. Simply curve the stamp on your block and stamp several times.

I just love the Whoop De Doo collection by GCD Studios! The papers are great, and the name is fun to say!

How about a great gift for new parents or grandparents! Here's what I used:

6x6 Chipboard Baby book (These come with 14 pages-great for our ABC Tag or Strip Kits.)

We simply painted the book with acrylic paint and added ribbon and a QuicKutz splat.

I painted the edges of the chipboard circles with brown acrylic paint. I then layered the Stacker pieces, letters, Rings, and photos. Stamp the title and layer with a cardstock Ring. Use a Ring as the guide to crop your photo.

Punch a second hole in each circle and tie together.

Ready for more ideas?!

With all these ideas this week, I really hope everyone is grasping just how versatile our products are. They really are ones that you can create pages with, THEN add photos...all WITHOUT taking the emphasis off the photos themselves. Utilize the sketches that we post on our blog. Make the pages with our precut pieces. Then add pictures. You will be amazed how much you can accomplish!

Here's an example of what I'm talking about. Versatility at its best.

I did a page with these pieces:

1 Connector liner

1 large Stacker circle cut in 1/2

ribbon

That's it. Easy enough, huh?

Oh, I did stamp on the corners of the page with our scroll stamps. I used the 'mirror image' scrolls from our Whimsical Scroll set...love how these stamps work together...put on one block and stamped all 4 corners of a plain white 12x12 piece of cardstock. Makes a huge difference.

Then, I started trying to decide which pictures I would use. I started with 2 vertical 4x6 photos, in black & white.

Then, I tried 1 vertical color 4x6.

Then, I rotated the page, and added a vertical color 4x6.

Then, I left the page rotated & added 2 horizontal 4x6 photos.

All 4 ways look good. See -- versatility.

Ok, here's another thing I like to do...tilt pictures so you don't have to worry about if things are straight. And, I cut one of our XL square slide mounts into photo corners...and stamped them with our dog background stamp. Love doing this, too.

I matted these photos, which is rare for me these days...but like it here.

Then, just added one scalloped Stacker circle (from Dog collection by Reminisce, on our site, of course!) and a scrap of cardstock to put the sticker title on.

5minute page. Works for me.

Oh, I also love working with our jumbo 11" Circles, and not just in our jumbo chipboard books.

On this page, I cut the circle slightly off center...then shaved off about 1/2 inch of each piece...so there would be room in between them when adhered to the page.

I switched sides with them...gives the page a whole different look.

And, see how easily you can add photos. The 4x6 on the right fits perfectly. For the one on the left, adhere it to the circle first...then trim off outside edges to curve it. No guesswork that way, works every time.

Let's start with a super-easy tag book:

Have you tried one of these yet?? Our new Classic Tag shape is simple....for a reason. I designed this die simply because of its size...it's PERFECT for 4x6 photos! Take a 4x6 vertical photo & adhere it to a page in our Classic Tag Chipboard Book. Trim top corners off. THAT'S IT. Who knew?!?

And, you can do the same with scraps of paper. Or, if you want to make life even easier, order any of our 36 solid colors or any of the Mix & Match prints in our Classic Tag option...and your papers will be cut perfectly for you.

On this project, Tracy used our Loverly papers from GCD Studios in the Classic Tag shape...added photos...RINGS & an XL Slide Mount & our XL Slide Spots (Father theme), along with the heart (from our Chipboard Embellishing Shapes pack) to put together the perfect Father's Day gift.

Wouldn't these make great Mother's Day gifts, too? or Graduation? Maybe use a glue dot to add a gift card on a page. What about brag books for new baby pictures? Perfect size to fit in a purse for new grandma's to carry with them. Ok, the list could really go on...Classic Tag Book. Make just one and you'll be hooked.

A Project a Day in May??

With May 1st being National Scrapbook Day, we thought we need more than one day to celebrate the many things we love about our hobby...so why not a whole month?!

And, with the ease & adorability (is that a word?!) of our Keller's products, it should be more than possible to do a Project a Day in May, but easily achievable!!

Good Friday...

Today is Good Friday. And, every Friday we do a Fabulous Friday Giveaway...and we give away something to 1, maybe 2, sometimes 3 lucky winners. But, today is Good Friday. It's the day that we Christians celebrate the ultimate gift that was given to us, Jesus. It's the day he died for us.

Keller made this for me in preschool...and I still treasure it. It shows what today is all about. God's grace. Thru Lent and especially on Good Friday, we remember what God has given us.

And, we all know the miracle of Easter, and that is what we look forward to after Good Friday each year. Easter memories for me are of church...dying eggs....indulging in what we gave up during Lent (this year, it's chocolate for me and sugared-sodas for Keller)...family...trips to the beach...the beginning of Masters in Augusta....oh, so many different memories.

Today is not going to be easy. Just as many days during this week of March have not been easy for me lately. 4 years ago this week, my grandmother -- Ginny to those who knew & loved her -- passed away after a courageous bout with Alzheimers. 2 years ago today, my father left us suddenly after a fall & hitting his head. And today. Today we go to the memorial service for our friend & mentor & teacher & artist....well, you get the picture. Please say a silent prayer or keep a good thought for her friends & family today.

Meet Eric Erickson. Who's Eric??

We're excited to say that Eric is the newest member to the Keller's Design Team!!! He's cute. He's funny. He's smart. But, best of all, he's an amazing scrapbooker!

We met Eric this past weekend at the Create N Crop event in Perry, GA. I kept hearing people say " have you seen that guy's scrapbooks? They are sooooo cool"....but I was busy teaching & working our booth with Keller that I didn't make it over to take a look....so a customer went & grabbed one of his scrapbooks & brought to me to see....OH MY! The first page made my mouth drop open...I may have even stopped breathing for a minute. I sat right down and went thru each page. Touching. Reading. Trying to take in all the details. I was amazed by the photos and how he uses them. I lifted flaps & hidden pages. I laughed. I cried. Isn't that what a scrapbook is supposed to be?

After I made it thru the album, I marched over & introduced myself....even though he & Keller had already become friends & Keller had told him about me. I then enjoyed his other scrapbooks he had on display. Within minutes of talking, I asked him to design for us...and he said YES!!!!

Why was Eric there? Just to meet fellow scrapbookers. Just to inspire fellow scrapbookers. Just to see what this industry is all about. He's scrapbooked for years & years, but has finally decided he wants to see & do more in this great industry. He does have a fun website, blog, and videos where he shares his amazing scrapbook techniques & ideas. And, now he will be doing stuff for us, too! Oh, happy day!!

It's Friday...that means time for another great giveaway!

This week we're giving away 2 sets of our favorite acrylic paints-1 bottle each of 4 great colors. We use these for painting chipboard, distressing pieces and pages, and so much more.

Any acrylic paint is acidfree and safe to use in your scrapbooks. So, you can buy the inexpensive bottles from the craft store or Walmart (about $1.00 each), or you can buy the bottles that look a little cuter from other manufacturers (usually $3-$5) geared toward scrapbooking.

So, to win these pretty colors of paint...tell us your favorite story involving painting...whether in your scrapbook or painting your house...anything! Did your child try to help you and end up making a mess? Did your dog step in paint and track it all over your house?

I guess my story would have to be that I let my 7 year old daughter paint a plaster figure she got from the store. When I came to check on her, she was tired of painting the figure and had covered her hands in paint and kept sticking her hands together...what a mess!

We have really enjoyed watching the Olympics the past couple of weeks. I think the talent, ability, and dedication of these athletes is amazing! (I can't imagine getting up as early as so many of them do to practice everday, either!)

Heartfelt.

That's the name of our newest Ring Quote. It will be the perfect addition to so many layouts and cards. I brought 3 of them home myself yesterday! And, then I used one of them on this Classic Heart Chipboard Book, with white cardstock Hearts and Rockets Red Glare Hearts. I know this is my company & I see our products everyday, but it still thrills me to see how quickly I can make projects b/c all the work is already done for me.

Fun idea with hearts...

Had fun making this Valentine's banner with our new Classic Hearts:

I used a pack of the Classic Hearts in the Eye Candy Collection, adhered to 3 of the 5 chipboard hearts that come in the Classic Heart Chipboard book. I punched another set of holes in each of the hearts (1 hole is punched in the book ones)...then added on of our Angelic Scroll Stamps & our "Kiss" word stamp...put a Slide Spot in the pink Slide Mount, and added a couple Rings in Truffle cardstock. I distressed the edge of all the pieces with brown ink. And, the cute LOVE letters are from the $1 section at Target. Oh, I added Stickles to the inside edge of the Slide Mount and the Rings. Then, I tied it all together with white sheer ribbon.

20 minutes. Precut pieces. Adorable decoration. It's that simple.
